Supported Housing Program
The housing program has several options for housing individuals with major mental illnesses. This program provides mental health clients an opportunity to live independently in the community.
- Cooperative Housing
- Apartment Complexes
- HUD Supported Housing Program
Housing support staff meet regularly with the residents in a house meeting to assist the residents in maintaining their stability. Housing staff help residents with individual treatment planning/problem-solving sessions, coping skills development, maintaining activities of daily living, accessing resources within the community, symptom management, and yearly housing subsidy evaluation assistance.
This program has been effective in reducing the number and frequency of hospitalizations and in assisting individuals to return to work and school.
To qualify, program participants need to have a diagnosed mental illness, qualify as very low income, and live in the Yolo County area. Rent is based on a sliding scale and is determined by the level of income. Staff can also provide individual support to those who need help with shopping or preparation of meals, completing laundry, or engaging in meaningful activities.
Cooperative Housing
Cooperative housing is available, and at each house, residents have their own room and share the communal spaces. Residents must be able to do their own shopping and cooking.
Residents pay one sum to YCCC monthly to cover rent, utilities, and maintenance. YCCC provides maintenance to the property and appliances. Additionally, furniture and major appliances are furnished.
Apartment Complexes
YCCC maintains two apartment complexes, Homestead (located in Davis) and New Dimension (located in Woodland). YCCC provides mental health services and currently operates the complexes with our housing development partner Community Housing Opportunities Corporation (CHOC).
HUD Supported Housing Program
HUD housing is designed to serve adults with a severe mental illness who are very low income and who are either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Most of the individuals entering the program are in the process of getting benefits for their disability but have no identifiable source of income.
Homestead Supportive Housing
Homestead was founded in 2005 in Davis, CA to meet a community-identified need of providing affordable housing to people with a severe mental illnesses.
Without the supportive services provided to residents many of the individuals housed would be unable to live in the community, require increased crisis and long-term hospitalization, or worse, become homeless.
This program has been very effective in reducing the number and frequency of hospitalizations and in assisting individuals to return to work and school.
Homestead Supportive Housing Corporation serves over 21 adult clients annually through our housing program. Homestead serves adults with mental illness who are living independently in the community.
This low-income supported housing program provides psychiatric, social, and independent living services in a compassionate, community-based environment. Clients get the living skills training, counseling, and advocacy services necessary to maintain their independent living situation in the community.
